Mermaids of the Crystal River

Artist notes: This piece was inspired by one of my annual treks to
Crystal River. Interacting with manatees in their natural environment
inspires me greatly.
There is nothing quite like being eye to eye with a manatee especially
the young ones. I find them to be much more curious and their eyes are
clear, unlike the older ones whose eyes have a grey film over them. The
young manatees with their big brown eyes seem to be trying to
communicate with you.
You can tell they are actually looking into your eyes and you can feel
an intelligent presence about them. This image was chosen as the
millennium decal design for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservative
Commission through the Bureau of Protected Species.
